QIGONG CLASSES

NEW 8-WEEK QIGONG SESSION STARTS TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2025

As of 2025, Qigong classes are held once a week on Tuesdays, from 6 to 7:15 pm. A new 8-week session will begin on Tuesday, September 30, at 6 pm. This is a simultaneous class, meaning that you may attend in person at our Essex Junction location or connect through Zoom.

This semester’s focus will be an integration of the Polestar form with elements of Bagua.

Our last class will be Tuesday, November 18.

The cost for this series is $150.00. Combined with the Thursday Tai Chi class starting September 18, the tuition is $225.00. Call (802) 879-7999 or email amakaris@comcast.net to register.

Regarding Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Zoom class will be recorded.
  • The class is suitable for students of all levels, beginners and advanced alike.
  • The emphasis this semester is on the relationship of breath to mind. When we first start learning about breath, it is in the form of a physical exercise. This semester, we add another dimension: that of the mind. There are some Chan and Daoist exercises I will teach, and also elements of forms previously taught.
  • I’m looking forward to our coming class!

The Northern Dipper Style

Our technique is also called Polestar Qigong, a reference to the North Star, Polaris. There is nothing special about the North Star itself, other than that it occupies space over (and close to) the earth's rotational axis and magnetic pole. It appears not to move while the rest of the stars move around it. This is a metaphor for the still point within, as well as a reference point for the earth's magnetic field lines, both of which are significant in qigong practice. Northern Dipper Qigong includes gentle movements that stretch and open the spine. In this class you will learn about essence; breath and mind; and physical and energetic alignment.
