UPDATE SEPTEMBER 14, 2021

Hello All,

Our next  Zoom qigong session will begin on Tuesday, September 21, at 6 PM.

The focus of this semester will be breath, and the movements and stillness that support integration of breath with body and mind.  Zhuang Zi wrote 2,400 years ago that the True Person breathes with their heels; the masses breathe with their throats. What does this mean?

The fee for this semester is $210.00. The first class is free. If you have never taken a class with Arthur, send him an email or call the office to register.

Regarding Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Zoom class will be recorded and you will have access to the recordings for several months.
  • The class is suitable for students of all levels, beginners and advanced alike.
  • You need not attend both classes.
  • The emphasis this semester is on the relationship of breath to mind. When we first start learning about breath, it is in the form of a physical exercise. This semester, we add another dimension: that of the mind. There are some Chan and Daoist exercises I will teach, and also elements of forms previously taught.
  • I’m looking forward to our coming class!

The Northern Dipper Style

Our technique is also called Polestar Qigong, a reference to the North Star, Polaris. There is nothing special about the North Star itself, other than that it occupies space over (and close to) the earth's rotational axis and magnetic pole. It appears not to move while the rest of the stars move around it. This is a metaphor for the still point within, as well as a reference point for the earth's magnetic field lines, both of which are significant in qigong practice. Northern Dipper Qigong includes gentle movements that stretch and open the spine. In this class you will learn about essence; breath and mind; and physical and energetic alignment.

Our classes are held over the Zoom platform. If you are not on our class list, contact Arthur to get started.
